Our dear friend Alice is working with the Vets to save Little Sammy...
Many of you may know by now, this past Tuesday morning, Alice Poppler's white Chihuahua, Sammi was viciously attacked by some sort of wild animal in her own yard. The attack seriously damaged much of her face and her nose is gone, but Sammi is putting up a brave fight.
Alice and the kids have been a visible sign of support and participation at this Club, teaching & taking classes, working and participating at trials and of course putting in lots of hours behind the desk. It is hoped that now we can repay Alice for her devotion to us with donations toward Sammi's mounting veterinary care. Contributions to the Sammi Fund can be left at the Club desk.
SAMMI UPDATE from Alice...
Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2007 10:49:01 -0400
I visited Sammi for about and hour yesterday and held her and talked to her while I petted her. At one time she gave a big sigh and lay her little head down in my hand. She seemed so contented. The vet has stitched up her face and although it is not pretty and does not have a nose I still have my Sammi. Physically she is O K. Her eyes are closed as he had to stretch the skin to stitch up the face and he said that eventually the skin will stretch and relax and her eyes will open. Her eyes were not damaged. I was there yesterday morning and the vet has called me three times since then to give me a report on her progress. This morning he said that perhaps she can come home for the weekend. She is resting well and not in pain. They are feeding her a special diet with a dropper, and she is on an IV.
Thank you for all of your caring. - Alice
Rainbow Bridge Poem
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water, and warm Spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other. But there is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring, and this one suddenly runs from the group.
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.
