Novice is a fast-paced class to introduce the obedience competition groundwork. Both pure and mixed breeds can both compete. Not everyone in this class plans to show their dogs. The lessons are valuable for all dogs.
Attention exercises, advanced heeling footwork and stay exercises challenge the dog and handler. Teamwork is stressed. If you have completed your dog's basic training at a different facility, after evaluating your skills your instructor here may recommend you first enroll in a different class to solidify basic skills.
This class is only for our returning students and dogs and handlers who have completed our basic obedience class and wish to continue to train. If you are not already a student with us please enroll in the basic obedience and manners course listed above.
In this class the basic class exercises will be perfected and hand signals will be introduced. There will be an emphasis on walking on leash without pulling and figure 8 exercises are introduced. Dogs will learn to stay where told as their owners leave. We will use distractions to offer challenges and to build an obedient, confident working dog

The basic obedience and manners course is the foundation class for all obedience and is an investment in having a well-behaved pet for the rest of her life. It covers walking on a leash without pulling, coming to you when called, staying in a sit, down or stand, learning not to bark at other people, allowing a stranger to touch and pet her without jumping up on them, learning to pay attention in a class situation and more. You are responsible for asking your instructor what you need help with. You attend with your dog each week and learn to train your own dog. Our classes are for friendly, healthy dogs.
We require your dog be vaccinated against distemper, parainfluenza, bordatella, hepatitis, rabies and parvo virus. The seven classes last from 50-55 minutes each. You will have homework/practice to do during the week.
