The basic obedience and manners course is the foundation class for all obedience and is an investment in having a well-behaved pet for the rest of her life. It covers walking on a leash without pulling, coming to you when called, staying in a sit, down or stand, learning not to bark at other people, allowing a stranger to touch and pet her without jumping up on them, learning to pay attention in a class situation and more. You are responsible for asking your instructor what you need help with. You attend with your dog each week and learn to train your own dog. Our classes are for friendly, healthy dogs.
We require your dog be vaccinated against distemper, parainfluenza, bordatella, hepatitis, rabies and parvo virus. The seven classes last from 50-55 minutes each. You will have homework/practice to do during the week.
Open and utility are ongoing drop-in classes with the competitor in mind.
open This class covers advanced heeling, off leash work, drop on recall, motivational dumbbell retrieving, jumping and long sits/downs with the owners out of sight.
Utility We use motivational methods of teaching the directed retrieve, scent discrimination, moving stand for exam, directed jumping exercises, hand signals from a distance. Problem solving, proofing, handling and working with distractions to build a solid, confident utility dog.
Dogs must have reliable retrieve and stays. If you have completed your dog's basic training at a different facility, after evaluating your skills your instructor here may recommend you first enroll in a different class to solidify basic skills.
If you prefer to apply in person, the office is open for applications Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday mornings 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Registration is required to hold your spot. Opening are rare the day of class.
